TAKE ACTION

OUR LAND, OUR FREEDOM reclaims the Kenyan perspective of Kenya’s colonial history by featuring those who actually fought for Kenya’s freedom and bringing to light the violence that colonialism wrought on most Kenyans.

This violence included mass evictions off ancestral lands, thereby throwing thousands into poverty.
The film also explores the legacy of the colonial era today, and its most potent issue: that of Land.

THIS FILM CAN HELP TO:

  • validate the land losses of affected communities, by showing their experiences on screen
  • advocate for land resettlement or compensation for communities that were disenfranchised during the colonial era
  • raise awareness about the direct link between this breach of ancestral land rights and poverty in affected communities
  • shift the narrative around Kenya’s colonial era history to be Kenyan-centred and authored
  • open deeper engagement about what colonisation and its consequences manifested to date; interrogate whose ‘truth’ continues to proliferate and why.
